So, unless there's a clear directive and someone is personally tasked with ensuring a new logo design is chosen, you're at the mercy of community consensus, which is naturally going to resist. Really, though, a big part of the problem is that change is always hard. I do, actually - there's a number of logos that I've seen in previous years that I would have loved to have had as our logo. There's undoubtedly a number of people here who would agree with you. FreeCAD is selling itself very short with that current logo/image (feel free to dismiss my comments, but I'm a graphic designer with 15 years of experience). I guess FreeCAD devs are solely focused in the code part, which is great, but that's not the only thing that makes a program succeed. It's sad to see such a big effort from the community being wasted by the apathy from FreeCAD devs.Īgain, sorry if I sound disrespectful, but I'll just move on to help other FOSS projects that might actually use the design help offered by the community. Current FreeCAD logo is far from good (again, no disrespect to the person who designed it). "Many new logos have been proposed, but no decision has been made to change it because the current one is good enough." But for more than 2 years people have been posting proposals (some great ones!) and FreeCAD devs haven't pick any (or shown any real interest). some better than other but there's plenty of really good options. Sorry if I don't sound very polite with my reply, but I checked all 2 years of effort and 30+ pages of the FreeCAD logo proposals ( ) and there's plenty of options to pick from. A professional CAD software with lots of capabilities and a good deal of attention put to all aspects of it! I like the general idea of the current logo, so I'm not proposing a drastic redesign, but a proper "up to date" version of it which, in my humble opinion, would help a lot with the public perception of what FreeCAD has become. and no disrespect, but FreeCAD's logo could benefit from some redesigning work. Since I'm not a coder and my current economics doesn't allow me to contribute to these wonderful projects with code or money, I put my Graphic Designer profession to use when I see projects that could benefit from some redesign work and I have a rare window of spare time to work on it. I can only dedicate like 1 hour every 2 or 3 weeks to learning FreeCAD). I'm a longtime Blender user (10 years) and I'm very slowly watching FreeCAD tutorials to eventually (in a year or so) start using it (Sadly, my work routine doesn't let me progress more quickly. Hello, I'm new here in this forum, but I've been following FreeCAD for quite a while!.
